Moving is an act of self discovery. Especially when you are doing it alone with only your stuff to worry about ("only" is an understatement, to be sure). Not every box has a surprise inside, after all I packed them myself. But eventually, something unexpected is bound to pop up.
Take my CDs for example. I don't think I've gotten rid of more than 5 CDs since I was in high school. And when I packed them, I didn't bother to reevaluate. I just threw them all in a box. When I got here, I took a little more care in unloading them, and realized that my collections needs a little weeding.
Top 5 Unexpected Finds In My CD collection
Mariah Carey, Music Box. Those of you who knew me in college know that I used to love me some Mariah. A guilty pleasure, if you will. But when was the last time I listened to this particular album? I think that might have been before I could drive.
Hootie and the Blowfish, Fairweather Johnson. Everyone owned the first Hootie album, so that would not be surprising. But I, I went out and also bought the SECOND album. What was I thinking?
Mase, Harlem World. I had a huge crush on Mase in college. Can't say I listened to his CD much though. Mase - where are you???
Coolio, Gangsta's Paradise. Ah yes, "get your woman on the floor..." My friends and I like to sing it "get your noodle on the floor..." His hair kicked ass too. But why do I still have this?
"Weird Al" Yankovic, bad hair day. How embarassing! I have no idea where this came from. I'm not sure I EVER listened to this. Forget I ever mentioned it.

i miss you!! and i need a knitting project.

did you notice all those weird comments on my blog again. super weird.
anyway, what's even weirder is that hootie album. i am happy to say that i never owned any of those cds you've listed. i'm trying to think of just one guilty pleasure and i can't think of anything out of the ordinary. maybe one day i'll make fun of my love for justin timberlake, but honestly, who can resist those moves? i know i love me some jt on my morning drive to work, that be fo' sure!
hope the orientation is going smoothly. did you have to hold anyone's hands??
word.

Haha ... I love that list! Never owned any listed. I would love to look through my collection and blog about it. Maybe I will find some time this weekend. I, like you, rarely get rid of CDs. Even if I hate them. Hmmm. I can't wait to see what treasures await in my box(es) of CDs.
Have a good weekend. : )

I heard Mase became a preacher of a big church somewhere in the south--Reverend Mase now :)

lolly-
yep, you're right. mase did become a preacher in atlanta! but he actually still breaks it down every now and then. my ex-boyfriend has seen him (or his car i should say) at studios from time to time.
hmmm. and i was really trying to think of a bad cd I owned, and all i could come up with is mirrorball by sarah macwhatever, but you'd actually like that one. hehe. i do have a monster's ballad cd, but that still kicks ass!
sooooooo tired. too many drinks.
word. spread it!

THAT is hilarious. Truly. Weeding? Maybe you need like a backhoe or something. ;-)

Ditto on the Mase comments- he tried to break back into the scene, but I think most everyone had forgotten about him by now. Maybe you could start a re-energized fan club? :)

Reading this made me remember something about seeing Mase somewhere recently, so I called my hip hop loving sister and asked her what she could tell me...she reminded me about his new song (uhhh..not familiar with that one) and that we saw him on some sub-par awards show a few months ago. So I did a search, and came up with this: http://www.welcomebackmase.com/main.html
Mase is back, and he's waiting for you.

Even more embarrasing than owning the CD... I went to a Weird Al concert right after that CD came out. (It was kinda fun, though)
