It might as well be Summer. Not that the weather is that nice, but life seems to be moving at a slow and lazy pace, just as summer always does in books or movies. Something about coming back from spring break makes the little bubble I live in seem strange and hazy. Last night, while waiting for the T, Maurene and I noticed a payphone in the station.
"Has that always been there." she asked. "Is that new?"
"I dunno," I answered. Then I thought a moment. "Maybe it's a portal of some kind," I said. "You know, the kind where if you touch it, you get whooshed off into another dimension?"
I sort of wish this was true. Wouldn't life be interesting if there were little portals all around, ready to take you on some mini adventure? Like CS Lewis's Wardrobe. Or the Phantom Tollbooth. Perhaps I just have children's literature on the brain.
Or, just maybe, it's all this knitting-for-babies:
Obviously, it is not quite finished. Some of the ends still need to be trimmed and I need to get a ribbon (or knit one) for a tie to keep it closed. I loosely based the pattern on a simple, garter stitch wrap in "Simple Knits for Cherished Babies." I knit this on size 6 needles, all stockinette except for the edges, which are seed stitch. And I added the ruffle because it seemed like it needed a little something. Same goes for the hat. Making up/revising baby patterns is much easier than making up/revising adult patterns, dontcha think?

Wow! They turned out so great! I love how you made a ruffled flower- great idea! Did you just make up the pattern for that?
I wish there were portals to other worlds too. ;)

Awwww, I love it! So sweet! I made one of those myself, but I added too many ruffles, I think. What yarn did you use?
I love that you can modify baby patterns and really play, maybe working up enough courage to modify stuff for big people (I'm speaking in the general you, not you specifically).

i wish i knew how to knit like you, damn it!
and if the portal was in a phone booth, then say hi to bill and ted for me, will ya?
if i found one, i think i'd have it take me to austraila and probably not come back...

that hat kills me.
also, that portal payphone moment was slightly surreal. maybe it was because i was on my sudafed/robitussin combo..but i remember us pausing and staring at it for 3 believable seconds.

I love that sweater - it is so cute! The ruffles are a nice touch.
I recently bought yarn for a baby sweater, but I don't know if they are having a boy or a girl. The pinks were really calling my name ... but I had to go with green.

Oh my god that is the cutest little outfit I've ever seen! Baby knits are so fun they almost make we want a little one of my own . . . but not quite. They're just so tiny and adorable!
