This weekend I made amazing packing progress. After about 8-10 hours of work and only one small crying fit, the boyfriend and I were able to pack about 90% of my stuff AND move my furniture into it's temporary homes until the movers come get it on the 5th. I am seriously amazed we were able to get it all done in the amount of time we did. Seriously...amazed.
I am really happy about this mostly because it frees my mind for the rest of the week to think about other things. Like getting ready for school (pretty excited about this, oddly enough) and figuring out what to do with a recent yarn purchase. This is where you come in...
After I finished Fad Classic (thanks for all your amazing props, btw), I was excited to get started on this:
That is the Victoria Tank from Interweave Knits, Summer '04. I love it. However, I have this nasty habit of getting really excited about patterns and then poorly planning the initial steps toward making them. Essentially, I looked at the yarn weight and needle size, and then sped out, headlong, to my LYS—without the pattern in tow. I got excited about a particular color of Rowan Cotton Glace and just bought the only 3 balls I could find. I didn't even pay attention to whether or not I had enough until after I had swatched, then cast on the 264 stitches required to knit it in the round and excitedly sped about five rows. Finally it hit me—I only have enough yarn to make half a Victoria tank. And half a Victoria tank, that is not so practical, no? DOH!
I ripped it out. I have a feeling those three balls were the last of the color at the store and, to be honest, although I love this pattern, I'm not so in love that I want to hunt down 3 more balls of the exact dye lot.
So now what? What does a knitter make with three balls of lovely greyish-blueish-greenish cotton glace? I'd really like to make something with it, but I'm at a complete loss. Any advice is greatly appreciated...

I love that pattern too! ...but isn't the Cotton Glace too thick for it? I'd think 4ply cotton would be better.
If I were you I'd return the three you have, and look for that same color somewhere else. ...or have them order it for you (assuming it's not a discontinued color. Otherwise they will just sit in your stash forever!

I think there has only been one time that I have gone into a store with a pattern. And that was just recently. And it was just to make sure I had the right size needles. I constantly buy yarn at stores with some pattern in mind, not knowing what kind of yarn I need or how much. I just fall in love with something and buy a few balls. I swear to god, one of these days I will decide I must make a log cabin and walk out of a store with, like, 5 balls, convinced that will be enough.

Girl, you totally need to give me some pointers. I have all of 4 rows finsihed in what is supposed to be a baby blanked (by the end of October). I imagine that in a week or so I may come into some free time.
I love the black tank sweater from the earlier post!

Hope the move is going well.

Ha ha - I do that ALL the time when I get excited about a new project - I'm so impatient to start that the project is pretty much doomed from the get go.
Anyway, the Fad Classic turned out spectacularly - it looks great on you!

i went on a yarn spree the other day. but actually everything was on sale, so i did pretty well for myself (i spent a total of 40 bucks on 9 thingys of yarn). i'm making the fad classic in blue. a fanny pack in purple, and then just bought some really soft greenish yarn for whatever. i am set for fall and winter!!
i wish i knew more about what yarn you were talking about, but there's always more dolls or just making art out of the yarn (like make a design and then put it on a canvas).
