retail therapy

Well, I'm all moved in. At first it seemed this move was going to be one of the easier ones I've done. Then we discovered just how dirty and broken our apartment is. Then the movers couldn't fit my couch into the living room. I tried to get a parking permit, didn't have the right papers to even get a temporary one. Tried to go to the DMV to get correct papers, didn't have my license with me. And on and on and on...

This move has been pretty freakin' awful.

As I fought my way through traffic this morning after the annoying couch discovery, I began to feel homesick. I missed highways. And nature. And spacious, affordable housing... so when I saw over at Kristin's blog the sweet tshirt she got this weekend, I knew exactly what I needed:

Highfive

I ordered a small in brown, and somehow I feel a little better now...

Oh .. you already ordered a t-shirt. I just sent you the link for detroitshirtfactory.com. Looks like a few different retailers are making those, huh? Awesome!

I am sorry to hear about your crappy moving experiences. A good shopping spree always lifts my spirits, too. : )

or you can always just move again... to SEATTLE!!! where the trees are plentiful, the roads are never trafficky (or at least I don't notice because I much rather take the bus than drive these days) and the coffee i hear is delicious.

*hug* Moving sucks so badly... I sympathize. Anything you need? I'd be happy to send you a care package!

i'm so, so sorry that moving has been such a disaster. it's almost over, right? what happened to the couch?

sending you happy unpacking vibes!

Moving is never fun, but sorry to hear yours has been especially crap. I too have found that new T-shirts have magical powers. I hope things get better for you soon!

That is the awesomest t-shirt.

Sometimes the northeast can be overwhelming. It's expensive. It's crowded. Oftentimes you're bumping around with people who are just miserable that they're here, and that you're here sharing their road, their sidewalk, their line for coffee, whatever.

And then when you're walking home from a kick ass night at the Pheonix Landing, in the September air, and you're in Cambridge, and the bums in Central Square try to say you're cute so you'll give them change and you go to Hi-Fi for late night pizza, or maybe you're riding the T over the Longfellow and you see the view of Boston over the Charles, or maybe you're at Charley's in Harvard Sq eating a damn good cheeseburger, but it's then that you think, wow, this town might just be worth the hassle.

Or maybe that's just me. I keep swearing to Eric that we're moving to Minnesota, but somehow, every year we keep sticking around. By the way, you should think about going to the Pheonix Landing one Sunday morning for the Irish breakfast and English Premier League soccer. It's fun. Good luck settling in to your new place! :)

And I spelled Phoenix wrong both times.

John Green: An Abundance of Katherines
Was on my to-read list for a while and I finally picked it up at the library. So far, a fun read. I'm getting on a young adult novel kick, thinking about the YA novel I started writing myself 2 years ago and about whether I want to start working on it again. Looking for inspiration...
