check-in review update post

I've been doing all kinds of things lately...

... washing veggies from our farm share (we get eggs and fruit too). Also, apparently, I was loading the dishwasher.

... letting the wind blow dry my hair on the Oregon coast. A few days at a house on the ocean, then a few days in Seattle for a cousin wedding. Great, great times.

....working, but of course no pictures of that!

And then there's all the knitting and crocheting. Lordy, I'm all over the place. I don't think I've ever had fiber arts ADD this bad ever in my life. It sort of started when we began the process of moving to Brooklyn, but it's only gotten worse. I have so many ideas, so many things I'm wanting to try, so many things left undone.


Thermal, all knit but still unfinished. I started this last October!

A somewhat deformed crocheted box. My tension is still all wonky with crochet, but I think I am getting better. I just made this to practice.

Endpaper mits. I was addicted to knitting these for about 2 seconds. That was in June. But knitting mits in the middle of summer? Turns out I''m not so into that. They'll probably hang around unfinished for a while until the weather cools off.

A crocheted motif. Again, practicing. This motif was from a table runner pattern in an old issue of Crochet Today. I made only one motif, though, just to see if I could do it. (What does one do with such a thing?)

New feather & fan scarf, on the needles. I started this so I had something simple to work on during my trip out west. I had mixed feelings about how this was turning out when I first started, but the more I look at it now, the more I like it. A gal at work remarked that it was like a rainbow if J.Crew did rainbow. I guess I have Blue Moon Fiber Arts/Socks that Rock to thank for that.

Ok, so I gave up taking pictures of my projects (I mean it--there are SO MANY), so I leave you with a basket of goodies. There are more mittens in there, a blanket, a sweater, and a bunch of other stuff stuff stuff.

So. Anyone--you got a cure for me? I don't like having this many UFOs hanging around. The only remedy I have in mind is starting another project (I know, I know--but hear me out on this one). I am going to do Ravelympics, for which I'm going to crochet an actual garment (this cardigan) I think making a pattern I'm excited about, on a deadline, with brand new yarn (yep, bought more) will bring a great sense of satisfaction and might actually get me on track to want to finish all these languishing things.

I guess we'll see about that, huh?

me, a list

After a bit of an absence due to travel and some semi-major life changes (I have a job, finally!), I figured a meme might help me get the blog thang going again. I’ve seen this one on many a blog; you probably have too. I’ll try to keep it brief….

1) What was I doing 10 years ago?

July, 1998. Summer before my senior year of college. I was working 3 jobs—TV station internship, waiting tables, and making smoothies at the outdoor snack bar by the pool at a swanky gym. I was stressed about what to do with my life, with graduation approaching and all, but mostly I was having a good time. I was also in the process of acquiring my first car—a '94 electric blue Ford Escort that I named Skye (very excited about this).

2) What are 5 things on my to-do list for today?

1. Get the blog going again.

2. File some stuff.

3. Pick up the laundry at the wash-n-fold.

4. Pick up Twilight from the reserve desk at the library (can’t wait to read this one). 

5. Cast on for yet another baby gift (perhaps).

3) Snacks I enjoy:

Cheez-its, cheese, olives, fruit, ice cream/popsicles. Trying not to snack much these days. Though I can’t give up the cheese!

4) Things I would do if I were a billionaire (in no particular order):

Buy an alpaca farm and hire people to help me run it. Pay off all my debt and my immediate family’s debt. Write a book (although I guess I can do this without being a billionaire). Start my own crafty magazine. Travel. A lot.

5) Places I have lived:

Babysitter, farm helper, fruit and veggie stand clerk, waitress, tutor, office helper, gym snack bar and kids' room worker, writer for the Alma Chamber of Commerce, copywriter, author’s assistant, editor/writer at a big ol’ university, magazine editor (current—again, woo!)...

PS--why does the new Typepad format suck so much? My impression is that they wanted to make it fancier and give people the ability to do all sorts of style stuff without knowing a lick of HTML. They also seem to want it to look slick and easy. But you know what? This seems to compromise the system and actually make it MORE DIFFICULT to post! Somehow I loose posts and can't put pictures in easily and take this post for example. Why is the text NOT in the style I have set up for this blog? By giving me more control of style, it's actually made things worse! Argh! Perhaps I should switch to something less hand-hold-y?
